COMMUNITY WORKS
HOT BOX (2025)
An interactive installation where users collaboratively shift the architecture from a collapsed envelope to a composed enclosure. The hand-controlled pulley mechanisms mean this transformation depends entirely on human engagement; when the gates are released, the walls gradually collapse back to their untouched position.

RED ZONE EVENT (2026)
Thx 4 the Memories was an art and music event held in Christchurch's Red Zone, marking 15 years since the Canterbury earthquakes.
The event brought people together to remember, reflect, and consider how the city has evolved since 2011. While acknowledging the tragedy, uncertainty, and profound changes that followed the earthquakes, it also highlighted Christchurch's ongoing transformation and the opportunities that have emerged from rebuilding and reimagining the city.
SUMNER SPORTS PAVILION (2026)
The large-scale artwork has been developed using a 7,000-square grid system, inviting members of the public to take part in its creation. Each participant contributed to this vibrant collective piece that reflects the strength and spirit of the Sumner community.
“This project is community action at its finest – every square tells a story, and together they make something truly special,” said Oli Aikawa.
The design draws on Sumner’s deep connection to the outdoors, while also representing the two sporting codes that call the pavilion home. It brings together themes of place, people and participation in a way that feels distinctly local.
